The race for the team tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games is finely poised among the giants of the game on the African continent – Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Algeria – who are in the final four rounds at the ongoing ITTF Africa Championships in Tunis, Tunisia.
The titanic clash will go down on Wednesday, September 13 at the Rades Sports Complex venue of the championships in the men’s and women’s events to crown the champions and settle the Olympic tickets quest.
Egypt picked the men’s and women’s tickets for the Tokyo 2020 Games and is the favorite again this year. However, the Egyptians face a Herculean task against their perennial rivals – Nigeria – as well as host, Tunisia, and Algeria.
In the men’s second semi-final event, Egypt will battle Algeria while Nigeria will face Tunisia. In the women’s event, Egypt will slug it out with Tunisia while Nigeria will take on Algeria.
The Egyptians – led by star players, Omar Assar and Dina Meshref – are up against Nigeria’s star-studded men’s team and a youthful Tunisian side.
25 countries started the quest for Olympic tickets on Monday, September 11.
Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, and Tunisia have already secured their places at the 2024 World Championships in South Korea. The remaining slot will be taken by the fifth-best teams in the men’s and women’s events.
