Blessing Labanti came third in the just-ended Shearoes Table Tennis Competition organized by Ghana Table Tennis Federation.
The 384-ranked player in the world and the 6-ranked player in West Africa who plays for the Blue Rose Table Tennis Club was in high spirits ahead of the tournament.
At the group stage, she found herself in a group made up of Augustina Baidoo and Agness Degraft Coleman. The contest was fierce between the players, however, Blessing Labanti came up victorious in the group by beating Augustina Baidoo by 3:0 for the first time in her career and also defeating Agness Degraft Coleman by 3:1.
Coming up on top of her group she played inform Cecelia Frema in the quarter-finals. Cecelia Frema participated in the just-ended WTT Lagos Contender and showed her wealth of experience in the contest which saw Blessing Labanti winning by 3:1.
Her win gave her a semi-final berth against the current session in the lady’s game in Ghana, Joanita Borteye. It was in this contest that saw Blessing Labanti lose for the first time to Joanita Borteye by 3:0, ending her dream of lifting the glittering trophy.
In an interview, she indicated “I was determined to progress to the final, however, a momentary loss of concentration and my inability to come up with a winning game strategy cost me the game. I will keep training very hard since I believe I have the game style to make life difficult for any player in the country”
On the other hand, Mary Naa Borkor a player at the Diamond Table Tennis Club of Nungua managed to qualify through the group stage only to succumb to Hilda Agbotta in the quarter-finals by 3:1.
Blessing Labanti would be in contention on the 1st of July for the Youth Discovery Championship, to be held at the D.G Hatheramani Sports Hall and she invites all her supporters to come cheer her up.
