WTT Contender Lagos 2023

Lagos is set to host the first WTT Contender in sub-Saharan Africa. The event has been patronized by highly-ranked players in the world. 

Players from around the globe, from the 12th to 18th of June would make Lagos their home and the Chief Molade Alexander Okoya-Thomas in-door sports hall at Teslim Balogun Sports Stadium would be where they would demonstrate their sporting priors.

This event marks the 19th event this year from WTT and Lagos is privileged to be the host of the first event in sub-Saharan Africa.

  •  16 June 2023, 1000 – Main Draw Day 2
  •  17 June 2023, 1000 – Main Draw Day 3 (Featuring Mixed Doubles Final)
  • 18 June 2023, 1400 – Main Draw Day 4 (Featuring Women’s Doubles Final, Men’s Doubles Final, Women’s Singles Final, Men’s Singles Final)

3. Event Disciplines

As a WTT Contender event, five different disciplines will be contested:

  •  Men’s Singles
  •  Women’s Singles
  •  Men’s Doubles
  • Women’s Doubles
  • Mixed Doubles

4. Playing Format

All matches will be played in a knockout format.

The Qualifying Draw will involve the following:

  • 64-Draw Men’s Singles Qualifying
  •  32-Draw Women’s Singles Qualifying
  •  8-Draw Men’s Doubles Qualifying & Women’s Doubles Qualifying
  •  16-Draw Mixed Doubles Qualifying

The Main Draw will involve the following:

  •  32-Draw Men’s Singles & Women’s Singles – (3 World Top 20 Players + 17 World Ranking + 3 Host Wildcard + 1 WTT Nominated Player + 8 Qualifiers)
  •  16-Draw Men’s Doubles & Women’s Doubles – (10 World Ranking + 2 Host Wildcard + 4 Qualifiers)
  •  16-Draw Mixed Doubles – (10 World Ranking + 2 Host Wildcard + 4 Qualifiers)

5. Scoring Format

The event will be played in accordance with the Laws of Table Tennis and the Regulations for International Competitions.

Singles

Qualifying for Semi-Final:

  • Best of 5 games/11 points
  •  The winner must win by 2 for all games

Final:

  • Best of 7 games/11 points
  •  The winner must win by 2 for all games

Doubles

Qualifying to Final:

  • Best of 5 games/11 points
  •  The winner must win by 2 for all games
6. Prize Money & World Ranking Points

Total Prize Purse: USD$ 75,000 (USD$ 37,500 per gender)
